Elegant Updo Hairstyles for Long HairPosted on May 3, 2011 by Kristina in Hair Styles
As someone with waist-length hair, I understand the frustration that comes with wanting to find a beautiful hairstyle for a formal event. I’ve been a bridesmaid in two weddings and for both I was worried about what to do with my hair.
While long hair looks beautiful when loose and flowing, it’s difficult to maintain that beauty for several hours. It is for this reason that updos are so popular for formal events. Even if you’re not in a wedding, but just have an important event or a night out on the town with your significant other, definitely consider an updo if you want an elegant look to your long hair.
If you don’t know how to do updo hairstyles yourself, one option is to pay someone else to do it for you, which is what I did for the two weddings I was in. Believe it or not, long hair can be intimidating for hairstylists, since it’s not something they are used to seeing, let alone working with. My advice is to do some research. Look online and in fashion magazines for ideas, and take pictures to your appointment. This will help your stylist get a sense of the look you want to achieve.
But what if you don’t want a salon style or don’t have the extra money in your budget? The alternative is to style your hair yourself, but what if you have no idea how to do updo hairstyles? Luckily, there are plenty of tutorials online. From websites that give step-by-step instructions to videos that you can watch, the internet is a vast resource of updo ideas that you can do right at home.
Miss a step? Just restart the video! For a trickier hairstyle, I’d also suggesting practicing a few times before the big night.
