Drink Right – Be Healthy

For me, the phrase drink healthy tends to conjure up images of people gulping down mixtures that look like a science project gone wrong: Raw eggs, vegetables in various states of distress, and lumpy, mysterious looking substances.

However, these extremes are simply not needed! Often overlooked, water is simply the best key to drinking healthy. The human body is largely composed of water, and needs its water supplies replenished to perform at optimal levels.

In general, it is recommended that people consume about eight glasses of eight ounces of water a day. As an added bonus, these eight glasses of refreshment comes calorie free and loaded with benefits! It’s important to keep in mind that this need may increase dependent on your environment. If in hot, humid conditions, it is prudent to ensure this recommendation is exceeded. After all, drink healththat sweat is some of your body’s water supply.

Water is also a key ingredient for a successful workout- as the body expends sweat, that water needs to be replenished. Instead of reaching for a calorie loaded energy drink, reach for a calorie free glass of water for refreshment.

In order maintain good health, water has benefits that are unmatched. Water helps to maintain energy levels, ensures proper digestion of food, and keeps skin looking fresh and healthy. In addition to this, drinking water also helps many common woes, including bloating. I know it may seem counterintuitive to think that drinking more water would help reduce water retention, but it does!

Many people will go to extreme lengths under the pretense of trying to drink healthy, but at times like this, simple can often be better. A plain glass of water provides the human body with the perfect fuel it needs to keep health in balance, with the added benefit of not adding to daily calorie intake. Water is a key part of my person diet and exercise program- it keeps me going without worrying about consuming empty calories.
